Overview

The BA (Hons) Economics program at Durham University is designed to equip students with a deep understanding of economic theory, applied economics, and statistical techniques, and how these are applied by individuals, businesses, and governments. The curriculum focuses on the real-world application of economics, including lectures from expert speakers and projects investigating contemporary economic issues. Students build a strong foundation in micro- and macroeconomics in Year 1, then further develop their understanding in core areas and data analysis in subsequent years. The program offers a flexible structure with a wide range of optional modules, allowing students to tailor their studies. Options include completing the course in three years, adding a placement year, or spending a year abroad. The degree culminates in a final-year dissertation on an area of economics of the student's choice, drawing on skills developed throughout the course.
