Overview

The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Art and Design program at the University of Alberta fosters students' personal creativity, teaching them diverse methods to express aesthetic, theoretical, and cultural ideas through visual representations. The curriculum develops technical, formal, and critical thinking skills to explore contemporary issues in visual art. Students begin with a common set of first-year courses covering foundational concepts like drawing, color, and 2D/3D studies, alongside art history. After this foundation, students can specialize in areas such as Painting, Sculpture, Printmaking, Drawing/Media Arts, or combine disciplines, allowing for a customized BFA experience. The program also offers opportunities for extra credentials like a Computer Game Development Certificate or an Arts and Cultural Management Minor.
