Overview

This Bachelor of Arts (Honours) program at the University of East Anglia is designed to perfect students' proficiency in two modern languages (French, Spanish, or Japanese) while developing professional expertise in translation and interpreting. The curriculum emphasizes practical language skills, including reading and listening comprehension, translation to and from English, precis and paraphrase work, and oral communication using contemporary materials. Students will explore a diverse range of modules covering translation, interpreting, culture, communication, subtitling, and dubbing, gaining specialist translation skills and practical experience in public service and conference interpreting modes. A unique feature of the program is the compulsory Year 3 abroad, where students immerse themselves in the language and culture by studying at a university or undertaking a teaching assistantship/placement in a country where their chosen languages are spoken.
