Overview

The Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Natural Science program at Lakehead University, offered through the Department of Biology, is designed for students seeking a foundational understanding of biology without necessarily pursuing a traditional 'career-scientist' path. This three-year, on-campus program emphasizes field biology and integrates extensive experiential learning opportunities, including hands-on lab work and research internships. Unlike many other biology programs, it does not require Chemistry and Mathematics prerequisites, and features fewer theory-based courses. Students gain a deep understanding of life systems, biological diversity, and the role of organisms in the environment, while developing critical thinking skills. The curriculum offers flexibility, allowing students to choose electives from other Faculties each year to complement their biology education. Students also benefit from access to the Lakehead University Instrumentation Lab (LUIL) to operate research tools and equipment.
